Computer Network Challenges in Big Data Era

A phenomenon that occurs in the current era of big data in which the information exchange process utilizing, and the growth of the internet network traffic has nearly triple annually based on Cisco®, diverse applications accompanied by the latest features was born and continues to grow almost every day and becomes a challenge for performance both in terms of network design model and optimization, the readiness of the device and application support low overhead to supports 3V challenges (volume, velocity, and variety) rather than exchanging packets in a network.

The network also faced with the challenges regarding whether it is worthy enough devices in the network to handle traffic increasing it. The promise of data driven decision making is now being recognized broadly, and there is growing enthusiasm for the notion of “Big Data”. While the promise of Big Data is real, for example, it is estimated that Google alone contributed 54 billion dollars to the US economy in 2009, there is currently a wide gap between its potential and its realization (Agrawal et al, 2012).

The challenges of network changes on future significantly is covering readiness of the infrastructure, the needs and involvement of users on the network, a growing number of new devices, and data transmission traffic is increasing, where the Global Internet Traffic predicted at the end of 2015 three billion people will reaching quadruple 1 zettabyte per year.

Annual global IP traffic will pass the zettabyte (1000 exabytes) threshold by the end of 2016, and will reach 2 zettabytes per year by 2019. By 2016, global IP traffic will reach 1.1 zettabytes per year, or 88.4 exabytes (nearly one billion gigabytes) per month, and by 2019, global IP traffic will reach 2.0 zettabytes per year, or 168 exabytes per month. Global IP traffic has increased fivefold over the past five years, and will increase threefold over the next five years. Overall, IP traffic will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23 percent from 2014 to 2019.
