Personally I loved Era 2 and found the characters to be the best part. Wax and Wayne are obviously great, and their dynamic together is probably the best part of the books. But Steris and Marasi are fantastic, especially as the series goes on. I like MeLaan as well.
It definitely not a epic tale like Era 1, and that probably mostly due to the fact that the problems they solving are smaller in scope.
